Booking an inspection

The six-step wizard, from picking inspection types to paying — and what each step is really deciding.

3 min read

A booking takes a few minutes. The wizard runs six steps — Types → Property → Price → Companies → Payment → Done — and you can go back at any point before paying.

Open Bookings and tap + New booking.

Step 1 — Types

Pick one or more inspection types: a general inspection, radon, mold, pool, termite, sewer scope and so on. Each shows a typical price range so you know what to expect before you see a company's actual number.

Pick everything the buyer needs now. Each type becomes its own appointment on the booking, so a general inspection and a radon test can be carried out by different inspectors, or on different days, under one booking.

Step 2 — Property

Enter the address. As you type, suggestions appear; pick one and the property is placed on the map. That location is what companies are matched against, so if the pin is wrong, fix the address before going on.

Three more things on this step:

  • Inspection date — the day you want the inspection. Appointments run from 9:00 on that day.
  • Contingency deadline — the date the buyer's inspection contingency closes. Optional, but it drives ranking, reminders and the refund rule; see why the deadline matters.
  • Buyer contact — the buyer's name and email. Also optional here; it is what a share link is later sent to.

Properties you have booked before are offered as a list so you do not retype them.

Step 3 — Price

A price estimate per inspection type, before any company is chosen and before anything is charged. The companies' actual prices come on the next step.

Step 4 — Companies

Only companies whose service area covers the property are listed. Each card shows the company's rating, any verified credential badges (state license, ASHI/InterNACHI membership, E&O insurance) and its price for your selected types. With a deadline set, companies with the lightest backlog before it rank first, then by rating.

You choose a company per inspection type — "Choose a company for General Inspection (1/2)", then Next inspection for the radon test — so a specialist can take the radon test while a generalist takes the rest. The last pick's button reads Book · $… for the total. Tapping it creates the booking and sends the request to each company at once; nothing is charged yet.

Step 5 — Payment

Each appointment on the booking is a card with its price and a Pay now button; pay each one, then Continue. Which payment form opens depends on the company's payout currency — a card form for most companies, Flutterwave for companies paid in naira. On the web the card form is Stripe's; on the phone it is the native payment sheet.

Paying is not the same as being accepted. The companies already have your request; paying settles it. Your money is held by FastInspector, and the company still has to accept. If it declines, the payment stays held and you choose another company — nothing is re-charged. If nobody ever carries out the inspection, the money comes back automatically. The payment guide has the rules.

Step 6 — Done

The confirmation shows every appointment on the booking with the property on a map. From here View booking takes you to the booking, where the rest of the story happens: the company accepts, you sign the pre-inspection agreement, an inspector is assigned, and the report arrives. That is the next guide.

If you leave the wizard early

An unpaid booking is kept. It shows on your Bookings list as Pending payment, and the booking detail has a Pay button for each unpaid appointment, so you can finish from there rather than starting again.
